Should I buy a new computer?
Many people often find themselves wanting a new computer. Either their old one is no longer sufficient for the current programs installed, or the user's needs have changed. The available free resources offerred on the Internet today such as computerized banking, news services, e-mail, bill paying, and search services often justify the expense through convenience alone. Students, parents, grandparents, and the entire family can now benefit from what the computer has to offer.

When should I upgrade my computer?
There are many reasons to upgrade a computer. Computer upgrades should be performed when a noticable change in your computer has been noticed. A slow running computer may have a one or all of the following symptoms: full hard drive or an older drive with a low transfer rate, insuffucient memory for the currently installed applications, or a slow processor being overworked. There are several ways to determine which symptom or combination of symptoms is causing the computer to run slow, however these operations should be performed by a trained technician.

What type of new computer do I need?
The type of computer needed is generally determined by the work that is to be performed on the computer. If the computer is to be used for gaming it should have as many high end features as possible to deliver the content to the user that the programmers had intended. Slow moving computers make for a rather dull gamming experience. If the computer is to be used for e-mailing and web surfing, then most of the high end features can be reduced or eliminated. If the computer is to be used for running office applications than a computer in the middle spectrum is advisable. It all depends on the work to be performed.

What is RAM?
Ram is what the computer uses to store information while the computer is running. It is a temporary storage bin for programs and applications currently being utilized by the computer. When you work on a document, the computer has it stored in RAM for fast access, rather that on the hard drive. Once the document is saved and closed, it is then taken out of RAM and written to the hard drive. Ram has different speeds, sizes, and purposes. Be sure to consult your technician as to what type of ram is best suited for your needs.

What do I do after a hard drive crash?
Hard drives crash and that's all there is to that. The only way to recover safely, and with as little down time as possible is to back up your data frequently. If the data is backed up porperly, recovery is usually a simple procedure. However, with out back ups to restore from it is generally required that the technician perform data racovery processes on the crashed disc to restore the data. Many times this can be done sucessfully, however when it cannot be, everything is lost and must be replaced.

After a hard drive crash, a new drive must be installed, configured with an operating system, and must have all the software re-installed. Once complete the data may be restored to the machine with the back ups. Without back ups, the first three steps must be performed and then an additional step must be performed. Data Recovery.

What is data transfer?
Data transfer is the movement of data from one hard drive to another form of media or another hard drive. This is usually performed when upgrading a drive, or recovering from a hard drive crash. The data is physically moved from one location to another.

What is data recovery?
Data recovery is the removal of data from a damaged hard disk. The damaged drive must be removed from the computer and then processed using data recovery techniques.

Should I back up my files?
Absolutely! Data back up is the difference between a usually inexpensive hard drive replacement / data transfer vs. a costly data recovery process. Backing up data can sometimes be a burden, however it can be far less burdensome that complete data loss!
